Solutions For Common Errors Travel to Europe

Speed up your next border check with the Travel to Europe app.
Developed by the European Union, Travel to Europe allows you to pre-register your personal information for the Entry/Exit System (EES) in advance.

Secure and simple to use, you can complete your pre-registration before arriving in or leaving a European country using the EES.
The app is voluntary for the countries using the EES: they can choose whether to adopt it for EES pre-registration and the specific functionalities of the app may vary from country to country.

For the up-to-date list of countries using the app, visit: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees/Travel-to-Europe-mobile-app

Who can use the app?
You can use Travel to Europe if you are a non-EU national subject to EES travelling to a European Country using the EES and you have:
• A biometric passport
• Android 10 or later
• NFC (Near-Field Communication) functionality, in order to scan your passport chip
• A front-facing camera to take a selfie for identity verification

You shouldn't use the app if you hold a residence permit or a long-stay visa issued by a European country using the EES. To read more about whom the EES does not apply to and therefore shall not use the app please visit https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees/to-whom-does-ees-not-apply

How to use the app?
1. Create a new journey by selecting the European country using the EES you are arriving in or departing from
2. Select the border crossing point and the time of your expected arrival or departure
3. Scan the personal details page and the chip of your passport
4. Take a selfie to confirm your identity
5. Answer a few questions about your travel plans (if applicable)
6. Optional: add co-travellers using steps 1-5
7. Submit your journey
8. Receive a confirmation that your journey has been accepted
9. Go to the border crossing point and follow the border guard’s instructions

Using the app does not replace checks by the border authorities and does not guarantee entry into the European countries using the EES. The final decision on entry can only be taken by the local border authorities based on whether you fulfil the entry conditions.

This otherwise useful app can only be used at select PoE in Portugal and Sweden currently (August 26)... For that reason alone, the app gets 0 stars; however the lowest available is 1 star. This should have been up and running in high traffic ports from day one. I don't understand how a system delayed this long has such a potentially useful and timesaving app not working at all, if at a minimum, the highest congested EU PoEs to avoid gridlock with preregistration.

I honestly just don't understand the point of this app... it's not connected to me, you just re-download it if you forget your passcode. When we went to Portugal, the app had absolutely no use there, wasn't checked upon entry or exit though we had it downloaded. Functionally, it seems rather useless, our exit "trip" from Portugal wouldn't populate fully, so it's just sitting there on the app, no data associated. Now, the internet is screaming that Spain is using it, but Spain isn't on the app.

Thank you for your feedback! Currently the app can be used for entering Portugal and Sweden. More countries will be added later, so stay tuned for updates! The up-to-date list of countries can be found at europa.eu/ees.

absolutely awful - the app presents as useful, to reduce time upon entering a country in the Schengen area. unfortunately there is just ONE country listed - Sweden. we're traveling to the Netherlands. even though many countries are listed as being in the Schengen area, the app doesn't allow you to continue unless you're going to Sweden. it's useless and as soon as I complete this review I'm deleting it.😤

Thank you for your comment. Using the app is voluntary for EU Member States who can choose if, when and where they would like to use it for EES pre-registration. Currently the app is available in Sweden and more countries will be added later. The up-to-date list of countries where the app is used can be found on the EES website europa.eu/ees.
